Antique and Modern: Eclectic Soul.

Antico e Moderno anima eclettica

Those who do a clearance find a treasure.

The eclectic soul of Cooperativa Di Mano in Mano began to take shape in 1999. The DMM was a reality that dealt with clearances of houses and apartments, and since then it has never stopped expanding. It quickly became a sales activity, both online and in its stores in Milan and Cambiago, but how could it not be? Yes, because already from the first clearances between boxes, clutter, and dust, it was clear to the keen eyes of the cooperative’s first members that every house holds (at least) one treasure between the ancient and the modern.

Reuse has been one of the cornerstones of the Cooperativa Di Mano in Mano since its inception. In fact, the payoff says: “New life to things.”

Since 1999, brick by brick, Di Mano in Mano has become and consolidated as a reference for architects, hobbyists, collectors, and anyone wanting to furnish entire homes or single spaces with a personal and eclectic style.

There is more than minimalism

In recent years, the imagery around the world of interior decoration has become somewhat flat. The buzzwords are minimalism and essentialism in spaces, with a touch of greenery strategically placed, arranged in cascading plants that climb on light wooden bookshelves.

And then there’s it, so delicate yet widespread: the so-called “neutral color.” Whites, beiges, and greys populate advertisements, catalogs, hotel rooms, and the homes of your favorite Instagram influencers.

If it’s true that with this type of aesthetic you’re playing it a bit safer, it’s also true that it’s not functional for designing spaces that reflect personality and the needs of each individual.

So imagine yourselves as painters in front of a white canvas with endless colors to choose from. And not just that. You can choose from oil paints, temperas, pastels, pencils, and watercolors. What a paradise, right? Well, that’s what happens once you step into the stores of Di Mano in Mano.

An eclectic soul

The beginnings in the world of clearances and the desire to extend the life of things (now very fashionable, but always part of Di Mano in Mano’s DNA), make its proposal anything but eclectic.

Starting with antiques passing through modern antiques and design. You will find the functionality of furniture by the most illustrious names in the history of design, softened by the baroque curls of a lacquered wooden credenza. Colorful 1950s/1960s chairs under imposing neoclassical tables. And then there are all, but really all the furniture components you are looking for: seating, wardrobes, lighting, rugs, paintings, objects. Think of one, and surely you’ll find something.

The typical formula of Di Mano in Mano of stylistic contamination, though unusual, represents a very specific solution intentionally chosen by the cooperative. It offers a different interpretive key, shedding new light on objects and furniture from the past, coloring them with the contemporary and making them accessible even to those who are not in the field but have a sensitive taste and want to express it in their own home.
