Interior Decoration 2024: 5 new trends in lighting
“ITALIAN ENLIGHTENMENT: The Design of Light Made in Italy“
On October 21, the exhibition dedicated to Lighting opened in the Cambiago Exhibition Hall, featuring dozens of design pieces of Italian production created between the ‘40s and the ‘70s. Let’s take this opportunity to discuss 5 trends that will illuminate the Interior Decoration scene in 2024.
The 2024 Trends in Lighting
In interior decoration, just as in fashion, it’s possible to identify trends. These are aesthetic currents, macro categories of taste that take shape through various influences such as social changes, technological advancements, and awareness of environmental issues.
Looking to transform your spaces? Simple touches can make a difference, but we often don’t know where to start. By definition, lighting is fundamental, so here are the five trends in interior lighting identified for 2024.
Industrial Lighting
Industrial lighting is a trend that contrasts with the country or rustic style that dominated in past years. The industrial aesthetic draws inspiration from industrial spaces, where functionality is the main requirement. Decorations become unnecessary, highlighting the essence of the structure and materials, often raw metals in their natural colors such as black, gold, silver, copper, and bronze.
Durable, easy-to-clean materials create skeletons with exposed bulbs, anchoring chains, metal meshes, and cage designs. This type of lamp works well in contrast with antique furniture but also harmonizes perfectly with minimal and contemporary interiors, especially when refined finishes such as satin and reflective surfaces are chosen.
Artful Lighting
According to this trend, in 2024 we will see many lamps with scenic structures, serving as decorative focal points in their environments. On the one hand, chandeliers become true architectural masterpieces, featuring elaborate shapes that combine geometric and minimalist elements with clear Art Deco influences.
On the other hand, we find unusual and dynamic forms with rounded, curved, and oval elements, ideal for creating comfortable and inviting spaces.
In both cases, the finishes are meticulously detailed, enhancing and elevating the object, which becomes the true protagonist of the interior.
Organic Lighting
This trend embraces the taste for scenic and sculptural lighting, which is extremely decorative. The inspiration comes from nature, with its forms and textures. Lamps have an artistic appeal and serve as unexpected counterpoints in minimalist and contemporary interiors. The materials used include primarily high-quality glass along with colored and chromed details that emphasize the sculptural nature of these furnishing pieces.
Taking inspiration from nature means drawing from a myriad of forms, from softer ones to more intricate designs, and using diverse materials. The decorative results are therefore numerous: from bohemian to more minimalist interiors, all softened by an injection of aesthetic chlorophyll for a guaranteed harmonious effect.
Spot Lighting
In 2024, the success of spot lighting is confirmed as an alternative to traditional chandeliers and ceiling lights. Spotlights offer the functionality of light beams that can be directed, making them perfect for reading corners, kitchen countertops, or any area that requires a narrow directional light beam.
Additionally, we see the popularity of wall sconces, already widespread in 2023, which continue to be favored due to their warm and soothing effect when well-placed in living rooms and bedrooms.
This type of lighting is increasingly in demand due to the growing popularity of housing solutions like studios and lofts, which require efficient lighting that doesn’t take up too much space.
Modular Lighting
Modular lighting refers to the trend of choosing adjustable lamps, with elements or modules that can be changed to adapt to different daily needs.
This includes suspended lamps with adjustable height and light intensity, as well as floor lamps and wall sconces with detachable components to vary their shape and size, achieving the optimal desired configuration.
Versatility is the keyword, along with customization according to tastes and preferences.
Lighting elements are among the most important furnishing components for creating atmospheres and, fortunately, also among the easiest to replace if we wish to make changes to our interior styling. Being aware of trends can help navigate the market and visualize spaces according to our desires, leading to targeted and confident purchases.
