Lighting is a fundamental element of every home, capable of modifying and transforming the environment. It is indeed possible to notice how the effect of a room can change simply by using different types of light. For this reason, the trend of light design has become increasingly popular, meaning decorating the home by using the right light in the right place, to achieve highly personalized effects and give the existing décor the right charm, in harmony with the environment.
First of all, if you want to choose a customized lighting system, it is good to create a project. In general, you need to analyze every element of the space, focusing on what you want to highlight and how to do it.
You should consider special lights that highlight a particular detail and ensure they do not clash with the general lighting of the environment. This aspect should be addressed before moving on to details.
It will be necessary to determine how to create a space that is not only beautiful but also functional, aiming to balance natural light when available.
When choosing the main lighting, it is essential to understand what type of room needs to be lit.
For example, in a living room, a kitchen, or a study, it is crucial to have strong and cool light to see all the details while cooking, studying, or watching TV.
If, on the other hand, a room like the bedroom needs lighting, it is preferable to choose a warm and soft solution that promotes sleep and contributes to relaxation. Then, you need to decide on the light source, whether more modern or more classic.
For instance, you can opt for a set of spotlights or wall lamps, or for a chandelier, depending on the style of the furniture and the size of the room.
In small spaces, using a particularly large and bulky chandelier can reduce the available space. Illuminating a large area with different zones is more complex.
For example, if you have a living room with an integrated kitchen and reading corner, you need to design different types of lighting: you can choose a set of recessed spotlights for the kitchen area, paired with a floor lamp that can be directed towards the sofa for the relaxation area, or a pendant lamp for the table, etc. The recommendation, however, is to avoid creating a glaring effect and to skillfully balance light and shadows in any room.
For the bathroom, in addition to the main light and the mirror light, you might consider adding spotlights or light strips under the sink (if suspended) or around the bathtub for a modern effect reminiscent of spas and wellness centers. Other details you might want to highlight include photographs or paintings on the walls, which can be accentuated with colored lights if the décor style permits.
In the published photos “Inspiration lighting project” we included various examples that you can find in our Di Mano In Mano exhibition.
Our collection includes a wide range of vintage lamps, antique lamps, candelabras, candlesticks, and chandeliers, as well as elegant wall lamps, ceiling lamps, floor lamps, and table lamps from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.
Pendant lights are elements with their own identity, which are placed in the space as true furnishing items.
They can serve as focal points and define a room, provided they are managed thoughtfully and carefully to avoid becoming a “constraint” or a disruptive element.
Chandeliers are used to illuminate the central part of the room. If the space is very large, a double chandelier is often chosen, especially in living rooms or combined living areas with kitchen corners.
Choosing a designer chandelier or lamp is often the ideal solution to add a personal touch and give a particular style to the entire room’s decor.
In the published images, we have featured, for example, a Regency bell chandelier with 6 lights, adorned with glass strands and pendants, and a gilded glass central bowl. The classic style of this piece can easily suit both traditional and modern contexts.
A metal enamel ceiling lamp with white glass diffusers is positioned at the center of a prominent table in a modern living area.
Meanwhile, an elegant wrought iron chandelier decorates a modern kitchen with a snake-shaped zone. The wrought iron sheet, shaped into curls and decorative pendants, presents a clean and sober structure that pairs well with modern environments like the kitchen in the photograph.
In our showroom, you will find numerous solutions for your spaces by visiting the Di Mano In Mano Lighting page.
Other examples of pendant lamps are proposed in the layout above:
A 5-drop ceiling lamp, in chrome-plated aluminum and glass, creates direct light over a kitchen table.
A 1960s-70s lamp in chrome-plated metal and aluminum, and a four-light chandelier with a cascading structure formed by various rows of crystals are suggested for a kitchen and living area. These are stylistically significant chandeliers that characterize the aerial space and enhance the ambiance.
An 8-light chandelier with a metal structure adorned with glass beads, cascading pendants, and a fountain-style crystal stem.
A vintage 1960s chandelier with a metal frame and glass pendants.
In a bedroom, it is recommended to place elegant lamps on the bedside table with warm and relaxing lights, while using stronger lights for wardrobe illumination.
Wall sconces are an excellent alternative if you don’t like chandeliers hanging from the ceiling in the center of the room. In fact, they are a light source that can be placed on the wall at mid-height and contribute to adding character to the space where they are located. For this reason, they should be chosen carefully to avoid becoming tiresome too quickly.
On our “Di Mano in Mano” lighting section, you can find various solutions and models in modern or antique styles.
The photos we have included in the layout serve as examples of how bedroom lighting can be managed.
Table lamps help increase the light in a home while also decorating the rooms where they are placed. They come in various types, from the most elegant to the more extravagant and designer styles.
They can be placed on furniture, dressers, chests of drawers, coffee tables, or desks, adding an aesthetic touch that shouldn’t be underestimated.
Our exhibition offers various models in the lighting section Antique, Modern, and Designer Lighting.
With spotlights, you can illuminate any type of room. The market offers various types, mainly divided between recessed ones in the ceiling and track-mounted ones, which can often have adjustable lights to illuminate different parts of the room. These are design elements that contribute to decorating the space, so they should be carefully chosen to harmonize with the interior style.
The floor lamp usually provides a warm, enveloping, and comfortable light. Those with adjustable arms allow you to direct the beam of light as you wish, making it suitable for illuminating the sofa, table, or desk correctly. If you need a light that can be more or less intense depending on the time of day, you should choose a model equipped with a system to dim or increase the light intensity.
When choosing a floor lamp, its design plays a fundamental role, as it must harmonize well with the rest of the existing decor. Currently, the market offers a wide range of floor lamps designed by the world’s greatest designers that can perfectly fit into any space. By opting for one of these models, you will decorate a corner of your home with a true work of art that will never go out of style.
If your home is decorated in a classic style or with a slightly retro taste, the best solution is to choose a floor lamp made of wrought iron, possibly with a lampshade in fine plain-colored fabric or matched to the upholstery of the sofas or the wallpaper covering the adjacent walls.
