I significati del giallo nell'abbbigliamento.

Let’s continue our review of the meanings of colors in clothing with yellow, a color that we will see a lot during this holiday season.

Together with green and red, yellow is one of the traditional Christmas colors. Stay with us to discover how and why, until the end.

One of the four psychological primary colors

Red: its primary action is to trigger physical reactions such as increased excitement and heart rate.

Blue: in contrast to red, its main characteristic is to trigger mental reactions.

Yellow: as we will see shortly, it is the color that triggers emotions.

Green: it is the color of harmony and falls between the physicality of red, the intellect of blue, and the emotional nature of yellow.

Positive and Negative Traits of Yellow

Yellow is the color associated with the sun, which makes us feel happy and in a good mood. It stimulates positive and comforting emotions. With yellow, we feel optimistic and it boosts our self-esteem.

On the opposite side, a very bright shade of yellow or an excess of this color in our environment can overstimulate our emotions, making us feel irritable and anxious, nervous, and depressed.

Does Yellow Look Bad on Everyone?

No: let’s dispel this myth. When we think of yellow, we almost always refer to the yellow of the sunflower, saffron, or mustard. These yellows are “warm,” and if we want to talk about color harmony, they are not at all suitable for most Italian complexions, especially cool or olive-toned skin.

But there are also cool yellows: think of neon yellow, lemon yellow, etc. Try for yourself, because there’s a yellow for everyone!

When to Wear Yellow

Yellow in clothing is to be preferred when we want to feel energized, for example, if we have a hectic day ahead and need to rush around non-stop, yellow helps keep fatigue at bay.

Or when we need to lift our spirits, yellow is a mood booster.

On a first date, yellow is the right choice if we want to break the ice and show that we are cheerful and approachable.

It follows that yellow should be avoided when we want to keep a low profile and not be noticed, as well as in situations where we want to be taken seriously. Yellow can trigger irritability, so it is not recommended for people who are anxious.

Yellow and Gold, Gold and Christmas

According to Goethe, yellow belongs to the archetypal constellation of light but is not identical to it. Yellow is not the light itself but its radiation, a subtle deformation of the original light, representing its diffusion through space.

Gold, as a brilliant, reflective, dazzling yellow, is one of yellow’s variations and is closely associated with representations of the divine in many cultures. If we think about it, it’s no coincidence that Jesus has always been depicted with blond hair and beard, emphasizing his otherworldly essence.

The history of gold is also intertwined with the concepts of royalty, wealth, and perfection.

For all these reasons, gold is associated with the holiday season and is widely found in Christmas decorations such as ribbons, bows, glitter, as well as in clothing with accessories, sequins, and details… flashes of light that bring people together in a festive atmosphere.
