Una storia sbagliata, che coinvolge molti ebrei della comunità triestina e ha il suo centro simbolico in una casa di via San Nicolò (la stessa in cui abitò Joyce), dove si trovava ad un tempo la libreria antiquaria dell'ebreo Umberto Saba e il laboratorio di sartoria e l'abitazione dell'ebreo Grini, lontano parente di Saba. Un figlio di questo sarto, durante l'occupazione nazista, collaborerà attivamente a identificare e catturare molti dei suoi correligionari, poi deportati e uccisi. Attorno alle infami imprese dell'ebreo traditore, ricostruite anche in base alle risultanze processuali, ciò che Curci delinea è però una rete ambigua di legami, di corresponsabilità, di vigliaccherie, di reticenze e silenzi che avviluppa Trieste. Una storia che si vorrebbe dimenticare, e che invece riveste uno straordinario valore esemplare.

Oil on canvas. French school of the second half of the 18th century. Probably the work of a follower of Claude Joseph Vernet (1714 -1789), a French painter specialized in marine scenes and who painted several times glimpses of storms and shipwrecks. The scene is set on a rocky coast, near a village built on the cliff above; a strong storm is underway, which unleashes a lightning bolt, shooting from the top right, above some frightened figures of wayfarers, and directed towards the sailing ship that is sailing at the mercy of the strong waves. The sky is full of black clouds, even if in the distance a patch of blue seems to be already beginning to open up. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in a period frame.

Italy Early 20th Century

Art Deco display cabinet from the early 1900s. Made with a central open door with glass sides. Two turned and carved feet on the back and two curly and carved feet on the front support the piece of furniture, which is curved on both the sides and the front with two large spaces in the uprights in which two turned and carved motifs with leaf and fruit motifs are placed, with final quivers ending in ears of wheat. Carved lambrequin cymatium, on the door a geometric motif with opposing strips with carved cones and ebonized spheres. The entire surface is veneered in walnut root and alternates walnut carvings with some ebonized ones. Small missing parts.

Italy, Early XX Century

Art Deco chest of drawers. Architectural piece of furniture built as if it were a boat with sides that rise in the center and are rounded at the base, like the front, resting on two plinths decorated with ebonized stars and resting on four ebonized spheres. On the top there are risers with shelves supported by spheres. On the front there are, hidden in the architecture by two doors, three small drawers on the left and three larger ones on the opposite side. The entire surface is veneered in walnut with striped walnut borders, decorative walnut frames and ebonized parts.

Oil on canvas. Inside an inn, which almost seems to be made in a cave, opening onto a rather barren countryside, some men eat, drink and relax at the table next to the fire, while a woman sitting on the floor watches them amused while eating. The figures are grotesque, almost caricatural, the colors earthy, to underline the peasant extraction of the scene. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in an ancient frame.

Monumental art deco bed. Architectural piece of furniture built to give the sensation of a boat with sides and front that rise in the center and become rounded at the base, resting on plinths decorated with ebonized stars and resting on ebonized spheres. On the sides are two bedside tables with door and small drawer, small shelves on the top. On the headboard of the bed there is a central decoration with small frames and spheres with geometric motifs with two spaces on the sides for two appliques; on the architectural footboard there is a bronze sculpture, depicting a game of cupids with festoons. The entire surface is veneered in walnut root with striped walnut borders, decorative frames in walnut and ebonized parts.

2-seater sofa, teak wood frame, foam padding, fabric covering.

Oil on canvas. Inside an inn, some customers are playing cards: the man sitting on the left is cheating, hiding a card in the collar of his shabby jacket, under the amused gaze of the innkeeper who arrives. The figures are grotesque, almost caricatural; the colors are predominantly earthy, to emphasize the popular setting. Restored and relined (on the back is a restorer's label dated 1952), the painting is presented in an antique frame.

Early 1900s sideboard

Art Deco sideboard from the early 1900s. Made with two doors on the front concealing two drawers and open compartments, a monumental mirror rests on the top in breccia medicea marble. Two turned and carved feet on the back and two curly and carved feet on the front support the piece of furniture, which is curved on both the sides and the front with two large spaces in the uprights in which two turned and carved motifs with leaf and fruit motifs are placed. Mirror with semicircular cymatium carved in lambrecchino, on the side two vase holder elements with two candelabras in the center carved like those on the piece of furniture; the mirror rests on the marble thanks to six ebonized spheres. The entire surface is veneered in walnut root and alternates walnut carvings with some ebonized ones. Small missing parts.

Set of 5 chairs, lacquered wood frame, foam padding, imitation leather upholstery. Padding and upholstery to be fixed.

Italy Third Quarter XVIII Century

Corner cabinet, Trentino, third quarter of the 18th century. Two doors in the base and a shaped glass door in the upper part. Wavy support legs joined together with feet carved in goat's hoof; The slightly wavy front has large uprights on the sides veneered in walnut with poplar burl reserves that we find in the doors, fillets in various woods with typical C-shaped inlays in maple wood. The upper door is veneered in poplar burl. Interior in fir, replacements in the hardware.

Deco Table

Deco table from the early 1900s. Oval shape, the top is decorated in segments along its entire circumference, with the insert of ebonized cylinders, the central support leg is made from a large panel with a perforated wheel in the center with spokes and ebonized spheres. On the sides three uprights per side, made of walnut, turned and carved with leafy tufts, resting on ebonized spheres. The entire surface is veneered in walnut root, with carved inserts in walnut and ebonized walnut. Small missing parts.

Men's waterproof jacket with thin white and blue stripes by Lacoste. It has a removable hood and cotton terry lining, suitable for sportsmen. The size is 5 American, the conditions are very good.

Chandelier, metal and chromed aluminum, glass.

Handbag made of brown crocodile-print leather. The interior is lined and organized into two compartments and features two zippered pockets. The item is in very good condition, with very slight signs of use on the leather. Missing shoulder strap.
