Oil on canvas. The painting is the copy of Charles Le Brun's famous work painted in 1660 for Louis XIV which represented the beginning of his brilliant career as first painter of the court. An engraving of the painting led to its spreading and many replicas, both in France and in Northern Italy. In the depicted scene you can see Dario's mother, Sisigambi, followed by other women and sons of the family who once remained prey of the enemies after Isso's defeat, she bows down in front of Alexander, acknowledging him as her new king. Relined, it is presented in a revival gilded frame. 18th century.
