Description
The figure represented is part of the wide production of the Portuguese colonial intended for the spread of Christianity. Among the major centers of production there was the state of Goa in India, conquered by the Portuguese in 1510, and placed under the protection of S. Francisco Xavier, in which the Portuguese culture is imposed in a way so strong that the religious artifacts including the products are indistinguishable from the contemporary production of the South America Portuguese.
