Description : La Sacra Famiglia
The Holy Family, copy of Bartolomeo Cavarozzi's. Oil on board. Cavarozzi was born in Viterbo and reached Rome at the beginning of 1600, joining the Roman Classicism first but being very soon fascinated by Caravaggio's work, also known through contact in Spain with the paintings of Zurbaran Simon Vouet. And this Holy Family is, in fact, inspired by the painting of reality, as appears to chose among common people the faces of the Holy Mary, the Child and St. Joseph and desplying their features with realism. Countless copies of the Holy Family were painted by Cavarozzi, generally larger than ours, attesting the success of this version. The copy presented here, although of a high quality, especially in the execution of the central part, is to be considered a copy of the late 17th Century. Restored, it is presented in a golden frame of the early 19th century.
