Description : Scena di festa sul sagrato
Oil painting on cardboard. Signature at the lower right corner. Giuseppe Cherubini was born in Ancona and studied in Rome. He moved to Venice in 1902 where he worked until his death and he did many works in churches and theaters (La Fenice). He attended the Venice Biennale in 1905 and in 1926. He exhibited in cities such as London, Berlin, Munich, Venice, Rome and Monza. In 1947 Venice granted him the honorary citizenship. Glimpses of Venice are among his recurrent subjects. He used to paint famous landmarks such as Piazza San Marco, but also less known places. This painting depicts the facade of a church overlooking a canal. To the left, the bridge above the canal leads to a Venetian corner liven up by a festive procession. Cherubini's glimpses are always simple, blunt and lively, but also melancholic. The painting is presented in beautiful frame of the early 20th century.
