Description : San Matteo

Oil on the table. The work, of beautiful quality, is an evident example of the Renaissance revival that spanned the 19th century, which concerned mainly architecture but also, to a lesser extent, other decorative arts. The proposed work presents the Saint half-length, standing still, turned sideways, looking towards the center of what appears to be a triptych composition, typical of Renaissance sacred art. The identification in San Matteo is due to the representation as an elderly and bearded man, holding the book and the pen, signs of his work of writing the Gospel. The table is presented in a coeval frame, gilded and decorated with engravings.
