Oil painting on canvas. Signed and dated top right. Lorenzo D'Andrea is a painter and sculptor. Born in Lucca, class of 1943, he studied at the Art School of Carrara and then at the Milan Polytechnic. He begins to exhibit in 1961. His works arrive in galleries and museums in Milan, Rome, Amsterdam, Paris, Lucerne, Bonn, Krakow, Nice. His portraits are famous: he painted those of St. John Paul II, Pope Francis, Giulio Andreotti, Andrea Bocelli, Renato Guttuso, Gerry Scotti, Pietro Cascella. His monumental sculptures are exhibited in Lido di Camaiore, Sondrio, Portofino, Olbia, Golfo Aranci. Until the 1970s, D'Andrea was engaged in an expressionist-informal figurative research: in a brightly colored, dense and material painting, characters similar to stele-statues were piled on top of each other, in which the lesson seemed to mix. by Picasso with influences of a certain medieval art typical of the Lucca area, the painter's homeland. Starting from 1977, D'Andrea will embark on a path that will lead him to very different results. Work presented in frame.
