Description
Extremely rare document that presents 21 pages of vintage photographs relating to the assault of the Moncada Barracks on January 26, 1953 by a commando led by Fidel Castro, the beginning of the armed struggle that will lead to the conquest of Cuba on January 1, 1959. More than eighty among the assailants were killed, Castro was taken prisoner, tried and sentenced to 15 years in prison. Castro used the final plea of his case for his famous "History will absolve me," a passionate speech in which he defended his actions by explaining his political vision. This brochure, with its particular graphic layout, was published by the ICAP (Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos) as a tribute to the foreign delegates gathered in Cuba for the commemoration of the event. Text in Spanish, English and French.
