Description
Embroidery on silk. Below, the date and signature, accompanied by the words "embroidered". On the back table, the name of the artist, the date and the place Carrara are repeated. It is an early work by Anna Micheli Pellegrini, a painter from Carrara, wife of the sculptor Ferdinando Pelliccia. The young artist, here only eighteen, composes a splendid vase with relief decorations, with different flowers and two insects, a butterfly on the left and a grasshopper on the right. Masterful use of different embroidery stitches as well as different threads to create the play of light and shadow, the embossed reliefs of the vase, the delicate designs of the butterfly's wings. The work has gore of humidity. It is presented in a contemporary frame, with lacks and damage from woodworm.
