Description : Composizione con frutta e calice
Oil on the table. Signed and dated in the upper left corner. Artist of Venetian origin but artistically trained in Milan, Dudreville passed from a youthful pointillist phase, to an abstract painting and finally, from the 1920s, to a realist one as he stretched towards a greater adherence to the essence of things. He defined his painting of the latter period as "Flemish", wanting to sanction with this intimistic indication his distance from the triumphalism and optimism of the Italian twentieth century and his search for an objective relationship with nature. Blind in one eye, he did not actively participate in wars and in 1942, to escape the bombings, he retired to Ghiffa, on Lake Maggiore, where he remained until his death. The work presented here proposes a composition of fruit with yellow and black plums and apricots, some resting on a plate, others outside it, and surmounted by a goblet full of water: the "Flemish" style painting is recognized in the realistic adhesion of the composition. The work is presented in a style frame.
