Ink on paper. Signed on the right. Born in Ohio but soon moved to Wisconsin, after having carried out various professions he began to devote himself to artistic activity, earning a degree in Fine Arts in Cleveland. He frequents artists of the so-called American Beat generation, From Kerouac to Ginsberg, and in particular becomes friends with Willem De Kooning, one of the greatest exponents of abstract impressionism, who also introduced him to the Italian artistic environment. In 1959 Carroll moved to Rome, where he established relationships with important personalities of the artistic-literary environment, in particular with Quasimodo. The work proposed here presents a composition of figures in a dreamlike, surreal environment; made in Indian ink, it plays all the effects on the chiaroscuro contrasts of black and white. The paper is mounted on a panel, framed in support with passepartout, missing the frame.
