Description : Paesaggio con figure

Watercolor on paper. Signed and dated lower left. A barren and marshy land is crossed by a farmer's cart with two villagers on board. It is the traditional painting of this English painter, who produced numerous landscapes in England and beyond, in oil and watercolour. The work is presented in a gilt frame from the early 1900s.

Artist: William Henry Pike (1846-1908)

Born in Plymouth (England) in 1846, Pike was a painter of landscapes and genre scenes, which he created both in oil and watercolour. Moving to London in 1874, Pike was admitted to the Royal British Academy in 1889, and to the Royal Institute in London in 1890. He also gained recognition in other European countries, which he visited and depicted in his paintings.
