Notes historical bibliographic
Antonio Bezzola (Campione d'Italia, 3 June 1846 - Milan, 20 April 1929) was an Italian sculptor. Bezzola was born in Campione d'Italia, in the province of Como, on June 3, 1846. An ornamental pupil of his uncle Gian Battista Boni, the artist entered the Brera Academy in 1861 and was taught by Pietro Magni and Giovanni Strazza for the sculpture, and Francesco Hayez for the artistic nude: in these years he created a Cain, which has been destroyed. After completing his studies in Brera in 1869, he was an exhibitor at the Viennese International Exhibition of 1873 and in Milan, where he definitively established his residence, in 1875, 1877, 1881, 1896 and 1897. In this period Bezzola went on licensing various works by relief: of these, we note the bas-reliefs for the monument to Napoleon III, some gugliotti of the Milan cathedral and numerous busts, which represent the artistic fruits of a year spent in London (which he visited in 1898). He finally died in Milan on April 20, 1929.Material:
