Il termine nonsense, entrato prepotentemente nel nostro parlare quotidiano, è stato introdotto in letteratura da Edward Lear nel 1870 e descrive quel modo di 'leggere' il mondo alla rovescia, di rifiutare le regole per tentare accostamenti bizzarri. Qui viene presentato il nonsense inedito di Lear: assurde ricette di cucina, storie strampalate, versi demenziali, tenere vicende di animali in rima baciata, accompagnati dai suoi disegni, perché Lear era anche pittore e straordinario illustratore. Pagine bizzarre, fantasiose, folli, liberatorie: un potente antidepressivo.
