Artist: Ernesto Giacobbi (1891-1964)

Born in Mortizza (PC) in 1891, Ernesto Giacobbi was initiated into landscape painting by Stefano Bruzzi at the Gazzola Institute. Shy character, he rarely participated in important exhibitions, but often joined the trade union exhibitions set up in Piacenza. In his production we find landscapes, often animated by workers, but also portraits. In 1940 Ernesto Giacobbi took part in the Cremona Prize for painting with a large-scale painting, entitled "The power of work", dedicated to the reclamation of agricultural land. The painting was appreciated by the jury and by the ras of Cremona Roberto Farinacci, who put forward a purchase offer to the artist which Giacobbi refused, judging it not suitable for the job. The work thus returned to Piacenza, where traces of it were lost until its recent discovery (in 2021). Giacobbi died in Piacenza in 1964.
