Additional Information

Artist: Fausto Maria Liberatore (1922-2004)

Born in Lucca in 1922, Fausto Maria Liberatore did his apprenticeship as an artist in the studio of the painter-sculptor Niccolò Codino. Friend of the Versilian writer Enrico Pea, thanks to him he came into contact with the protagonists of twentieth-century Italian art, such as Carlo Carrà, Ernesto Treccani and Raffaele De Grada. Anti-fascist, he actively participated in the Resistance. In 1948 he set up his first and largest exhibition in Milan. Politically involved, he was secretary of the Lucca provincial federation of the Italian Communist Party. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1958 in the ranks of the PCI, remaining in Montecitorio for one legislature. Once his parliamentary commitment ended, he abandoned political activism, concentrating on art. Liberatore died in Lido di Camaiore in 2004.
