Description

Pair of eclectic shelves in carved and gilded wood in Mecca, Italy third quarter 19th century. Lower end composed of a bellflower topped by curls, which support the shelf surface covered in velvet. A vertical structure extends from the floor, decorated with large lateral leaf elements and a pair of central flowers; crown with three flowers at the apex. Small renovations and gilding restorations. Slight defects in the gilding.

Towards the end of the 19th century, the taste for combining elements taken from various styles of the past asserted itself.
