Description
Ambitious annual publication by the publisher Paolo Ripamonti Carpano, who we know above all thanks to his precious Strenne illustrated with beautiful chromolithographs, welcome gifts on the occasion of New Year in the families of the 19th century bourgeoisie. Published starting in 1845, suspended in 1849 and resumed in 1852, the Gemme d'arti italiane had the ambitious aim of presenting themselves as a brief excursus of the artistic panorama of the moment through engravings and descriptions of works by painters and sculptors of the time. In our volume, 11 works by painters and sculptors are proposed, among which Domenico and Gerolamo Induno stand out. This is followed by the Cenni sull'Esposizione di Belle Arti in Brera for the year 1852. All in the elegant typographical dress typical of the publishing house, with its frontispiece and two dedications to the Marchese Uberto Pallavicini in elaborate chromolithograph frames and the text framed by rich floral-themed frames.
