Description
On the back cover: “On December 15, 1969, in Catania, I bought a 365-page notebook, the same number of days in the year, covered in brown leather with the letters VIP engraved on it. I paid six thousand lire for it. I set myself the goal of filling the 365 pages in a month without second thoughts, that is, immediately in the final draft. The need to write a book was born out of contingency, just as all my other work or other actions were born.” The figure of the Black Man derives from a performance by the group Lo Zoo with which Pistoletto has been staging collective actions since 1967; in this same 1970, the date of publication of our book, the Civic Museum of Bologna hosts an installation dedicated to the same character, entitled “The Office of the Black Man.”
