Description : Jek sulla barca

Pencil on paper. Signed lower left; title lower right. On the back is a label from the Galleria Gian Ferrari in Milan, with the artist's name and title. Guido Tallone, son of Cesare Tallone, devoted himself mainly to portraiture in the first phase of his life. After the Second World War, his production also developed into genre scenes, portraits of objects dear to him or of his everyday life. His works are distinguished by rapid brushstrokes and bright, brilliant colours, strongly influenced by Impressionism. In this case, a pencil sketch of a dog is presented, called by name, and portrayed on the boat - of which only the bow is sketched - probably a companion on one of the artist's trips. Framed.

Artist: Guido Tallone (1894-1967)

Born in Bergamo in 1894, Guido Tallone approached painting at a very young age under the guidance of his father Cesare, and studying at the Brera Academy. After the war, he began his career as a portraitist in 1919. In the early 1920s, he undertook numerous trips, during which he became friends with Ezra Pound and Hemingway and met Masson, Mirò, Kokoschka, Dix, Chagall, Klee. In 1930 he began a fervent exhibition activity in Milan, followed by his brother Ermanno, a gallery owner. His first exhibition was in 1923 at the Permanente in Milan, in which he participated numerous times again during his career. In 1930 he participated for the first time in the Venice Biennale, where he met his friend De Pisis; numerous other participations followed in subsequent editions, in the 1930s and 1940s. From 1941 he began painting interiors and objects dear to him and portrayed his family members. From 1945 to 1967 he had countless exhibitions around the world and especially in Milan (Galleria Gussoni, Galleria Cairola). Guido Tallone died in 1967.
