Description

The text of D'Annunzio's poem is reproduced in the facsimile of the autograph in red ink, with the original deletions and corrections, with the transcription in black opposite. The editorial initiative is by Mario Guabello who in the introduction declares that he is publishing the manuscript of the Epicedio as an extract from the Great Catalogue of Autographs of the poet in preparation, in commemoration of the victorious campaign in Africa which ended in Addis Ababa on 5 May 1936. The introduction also discusses and rejects the accusations of plagiarism levelled against D'Annunzio by various critics of the time.
