Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower left. Genre scene of popular taste, it portrays a bourgeois family preparing to have lunch: the father, already seated at the table, is about to bless the meal, while his wife and son, standing, follow the prayer. Little is known about Charles Christophe Coventry, an English painter of whom we know mainly genre scenes of popular settings, such as this one. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in a period frame.

Painting Portrait of a Priest

Oil on canvas. Portrait of a prelate, severely intent on reading the breviary: the white fur cape worn by the priest over his cassock stands out, while on his head he wears the traditional biretta. The painting has a small cut in the lower left, and some paint loss. It is presented in a contemporary gilded frame.

Oil on canvas. The protagonists of the scene are a girl and a boy dressed in traditional Tyrolean clothes, a region to which the setting also refers, with its characteristic mountain chalets with flower-filled balconies; the girl, sitting knitting, joyfully receives the embrace of the boy, who takes her by surprise from behind. The pictorial style and subject matter refer to the production of some Tyrolean artists who tried their hand at popular and traditional genre scenes, including for example Hugo Kauffmann, specialized in popular interior scenes in costume. The painting, on the first canvas, shows traces of patches. It is presented in a gilded frame in style.

Watercolor, ink and pencil on paper. Applied to cardboard, on which at the bottom appears the owner's pencil inscription "Inventions, interior of the temple of the god Brama. Original by Professor Antonio Basoli". Also present, at the bottom right, is the stamp "Professor Antonio Basoli". Given his long career as a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, it can be assumed that one of his students became the owner of this drawing by Basoli, probably a scenographic sketch. Antonio Basoli established himself as a scenographer and decorator. Thanks to his creativity, he was able to integrate the Bolognese scenographic traditions with new trends, such as the neoclassical style and romantic vedutism. His scenographic production, documented in the collection of booklets of the Biblioteca Marucelliana in Florence from 1808 to 1820, was very vast, as demonstrated by his numerous sketches preserved mostly in Bologna, Milan and Florence. The drawing is presented in a period frame.

The young woman, dressed in white, is portrayed outdoors, sitting on a flowery meadow overlooking a sea coast, with the sky and sea blending into a chromatic uniformity of dark blue, against which the whiteness of the white dress stands out. Alphonse Monchablon was an important 19th-century French portraitist, who depicted several important historical figures. In this portrait of an unknown girl, Monchablon departs from the academic approach of formal official portraits, to give a more poetic connotation to the sweet and melancholic figure. The painting has been restored. It is presented in a contemporary frame, with floral decoration.

Oil on canvas. At the bottom right are the unidentified signature (partially erased), the location Rome and the date 1841. The portrait of this pair of women, presumably mother and daughter, is singular: the older woman is dressed strictly in black, in mourning, and her gaze is lost in the distance, chasing memories of her life, detaching herself from the present; the young woman, on the other hand, at the centre of the scene, is elegant and lively, in a pink dress and a precious white and gold satin cloak, with a white fur collar, a bunch of flowers in her hand; although leaning on the shoulder of the older woman, whom she holds under her arm with a confidential but also protective attitude, she displays a confident and determined expression, staring straight ahead towards the viewer, or perhaps reaching out towards the future that awaits her. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in a period frame.

Oil on canvas. Signature, date and location Milan on the lower left. The young woman portrayed is very elegant in her blue satin dress embellished with delicate lace, she sits on an elegant armchair; smiling, she looks at the viewer with intensity, showing off her beauty. There is an uncertain identification of the woman as Clementina Marchetti Grillo, a young noblewoman from Lecco, of whom there is another portrait by the same Luchini. The work is presented in a gilded frame from the second half of the 19th century, with missing parts (to be restored).
