The scene, set in an elegant living room, features a group of ladies and gentlemen entertaining themselves musically during a reception: while a woman plays the spinet, a young couple dances. The work is presented in a period frame, with a large lack in the upper part.

Desk clock in bronze and beveled glass. Dial with Arabic numerals and central medallion in pierced bronze.

Box in silver worked with a burin. On the lid a neutral rectangular plate. Wooden interior with compartments. Silver marks engraved on the side.

Long dress dating back to the 70s created in tailoring with a particular lamé fabric (on a cream-white base, the aquamarine and silver thread is worked in relief). The size corresponds to the Italian 40: total length 135 cm, shoulders 33 cm, waistline 70 cm. The shoulders are slightly puffed, the sleeves are narrow with a small zip at the cuffs, the fastening is at the back with a zip.

Michel Onfray, coerente con sé stesso, prende di mira in questo libro una religione che, ancor più dei monoteismi del suo "Trattato di ateologia", sembra dover ancora avere vita lunga e felice. Questa religione è la psicoanalisi, e più in particolare il freudismo. L'idea di Onfray è semplice e radicale: Freud ha tentato di costruire una scienza e non vi è riuscito; ha voluto provare che l'inconscio ha le sue leggi, la sua logica intrinseca, può essere studiato mediante protocolli che riteneva scientifici, e tuttavia ha mentito, per potersi fregiare degli emblemi della scientificità. Tutto ciò merita una controinchiesta: ed è l'obiettivo che Onfray si pone. Con il rigore e la pazienza di un archivista, riprende daccapo in mano i testi sacri della nuova Chiesa. E senza timore dello stigma che si sarebbe senz'altro procurato, li mette a confronto con le testimonianze e ne esamina le contraddizioni. Il bilancio è terribile: la psicoanalisi è un'appendice della psicologia, della letteratura, della filosofia, ma non può assolutamente aspirare allo statuto di scienza "dura". Accolto in Francia da un enorme successo di pubblico - che si avvia a superare quello del "Trattato di ateologia" - e un'ondata di critiche feroci, "Crepuscolo di un idolo" è Onfray al suo meglio: un pensatore che della decostruzione di grandi miti del nostro (e di ogni) tempo fa una battaglia per la libera ricerca della felicità terrena.
