Description : Babilonia la grande
Babylon the Great, etching by Luigi Sabatelli, early 19th Century. It belongs to the series of six Visions of the Apocalypse (1809-10), the last great engraving of the artist, who in his early years dedicated himself to the engravings with great success, in particular with the series dedicated to the Via Crucis, those inspired by Dante's Inferno and Daniele's vision, referring to the so-called strand of the "sublime visionary". After engraving the Apocalypse, Sabatelli, born and artistically raised in Florence, moved to Milan where he dedicated himself to teaching historical painting at the Brera Academy and exclusively to the pictorial artistic production. This etching, shows at the bottom the Latin words of the related Apocalypse passage. It has a small tear at the top. Presented in frame.
