Description : Progetto per il rifacimento della facciata del Duomo di Milano
Watercolor on paper. In Milan a contest for the remake in Gothic style of the cathedral's facade was announced in 1884. The contest was made possible thanks to a bequest of 900,000 lira from Aristide De Togni. In 1887 the famous architect Luca Beltrami published a brief study 'Per la facciata del Duomo di Milano' (For the cathedral's facade) to underline the interest that this issue raised. Many projects were presented, but Giuseppe Brentano's project was the one that triumphed. Unfortunately, the young architect sudden death and the general cooling of the enthusiasm made sure that the whole challenge was set aside. This project is signed by Carlo Della Rosa and dated 29th April 1887. The work has some rips and damages along the edges. It comes from an important private collections.
