Description : Guardiano di vitelli in Engadina
Oil painting on canvas. Signed in the lower left corner. Paper label on the back belonging to the art gallery of Milan, handwritten inventory number and title. Ruggero Panerai was an Italian painter, teacher and illustrator from Florence. He studied at Accademia di Belle Arti and was Giovanni Fattori's student. His teacher introduced him to the naturalistic depiction of the Tuscan Maremma. He was also fascinated by military subjects and painted military and maritime life scenes. He stood out as animal activist. His style recalls an easy, fresh and lively Impressionism. The subject here depicted is consistent with his production of Tuscan landscapes, even though the title locates it to a village in Switzeland. The painting is presented in beautiful coeval frame. 20th century.
