Description : Scorcio id Firenze con rovine e figure
Oil painting on canvas signed in the lower right corner. The glimpse depicts a portion of Tuscan hills with the ruins of a castle. On the trail a female figure is sitting and resting. On the background there is the skyline of Florence, clearly recognizable from the cupola and bell tower of the Duomo. The artist Lorenzo Gelati was born in Florence and used to paint mostly landscapes. His favorites were glimpses of the countryside and urban settings. He was one of the animators of Caffè Michelangelo in Florence and interpreter of the naturalistic themes from a Macchiaioli point of view by using stains of color to create immediate and fresh paintings. He described nature faithfully and removed the emotional content typical of Romanticism. Restored and relined, it is presented in beautiful revival frame. 19th century.
