Additional Information

Artist: Giacomo Gabbiani (1900-1989)

Born in Milan in 1900, Giacomo Gabbiani studied painting with Riccardo Brambilla and Giuseppe Amisani. In 1925 he began to exhibit in various exhibitions: at the National Exhibition of the Brera Academy, at the Permanente in Milan. His first solo exhibition dates back to 1928, at the Micheli Gallery and in the same year his first professional successes began: the Gallery of Modern Art in Milan purchased two of his paintings. In 1932 he was commissioned with a portrait for the Picture Gallery of the Ospedale Maggiore, in 1939 one of his paintings was purchased by the Ministry of War. As late as 1939, Gabbiani exhibited one of his anthological exhibitions in Rome in Palazzo Berberini. In 1948 he founded the Accademia Libera Gabbiani in Milan, where his friend and colleague the Treviso painter Aurelio Villanova was his student. After the war, with the changing taste of the public, Giacomo Gabbiani remained on the sidelines in the Italian artistic panorama, although he continued to work and exhibit: in Sanremo in 1956, the following year at the Centro San Babila in Milan. In addition to painting, Gabbiani also dedicated himself to engraving. Gabbiani died in Salice Terme in 1989.
