Description : Scorcio di Paestum con gregge
Watercolor on paper. Signed and placed in Naples on the lower left corner. Consalvo Carelli belonged to the group of neapolitans painters of Posilipo's school that at the beginning of 19th century was exclusively focused on neapolitans landscapes painting. He painted a big amount of works, some oils, but mostly with watercolors and drawings that mostly represent neapolitan landscapes: phlegrean places, Sorrento and Amalfi coast; after being in Rome from 1837 to 1840 he painted from real life the beauty of the roman lands and scenes of popular life. the Verista Tendency combined with the love for the ancient times inspired by his teachers brought him to the prodution of landscapes an glimpses as the one in question where the solemnity of the temple that stands out in the Paestum plain is accompained with a group of figure, the shepherd with his armings, poor and dedicated to their daily life, anaware of the sacral place. The painting is displayed in a frame.
