Description : Perseo e Andromeda
Oil on canvas. Italian School. The scene is focused on Adromeda, while the others figures, Perseus flying, the monster emerging from the water, the king and the queen witnessing on the shore, surround her. The young and beautiful Andromeda, Cepheus and Cassiopeia' daughter, kings of Ethiopia, was offered as a sacrifice to a see monster sent by Poseidon to devastate the kingdom's coasts because of an offence. The hero Perseus, just back from the beheading of Medusa the Gorgon, riding a flying horse, was enchanted by the girl chained to the rock so he faced the monster defeating it. The painting had alredy been restored and is displayed in a nineteenth-century frame.
