After the interlude of the war (enlisted, sank with his ship and was taken prisoner in Tunis), he resumed his artistic activity in Milan, participating in the Nuclear Movement and Spatialism, coming to completely detach himself from figurative painting to create works made of brushstrokes mashed potato. At the beginning of the fifties he began to create works, pictorial and sculptural, with different materials and to experiment with different themes and techniques; to this production belong the Tableaux dorés, composed of silvered or gilded aluminum foils on painted bases. Additional Information

Artist: Remo Bianco (1922-1988)

Remo Bianco (pseudonym of Remo Bianchi), born in Milan in 1922, attended the Brera Academy, where he met De Pisis; he therefore began to frequent his studio, where he met Carrà, Sironi, Savinio, Soffici, Soldati, Marini, Cantatore. In 1941 he was enlisted as a gunner pointer on a destroyer, which was sunk: saved by the British he was imprisoned in Tunis. In 1944 he returned to Milan and contacted de Pisis again. He participated in the Nuclear Movement, founded by Baj and Dangelo, from which he learned the love for matter and from Spatialism he learned the Dadaist dimension; he became interested in material colors and material writing. His art progressively freed itself from figurativeness to become pure brushstrokes. In the early 1950s he made works on layers of glass and plastic and carved on wood. After a research carried out on the collage, the Tableaux dorés were born, created with gold leaves and paint. In 1956 he wrote the manifesto of Improntale art, which was born from the imprint printed as a colored stamp. In the seventies he carried out experiments with artificial snow, which he sprayed on different objects or people, the Snow Sculptures. Among the latest experiments of the artist, there was the Elementary Art, or works made with flowers, fruits, rides, toy soldiers and writings. Bianco died in Milan in 1988.
