Description

Rare publication given as a gift to the Associates for 1871 to the famous magazine Pasquino, a humorous Artistic-Political-Social newspaper that came out every Sunday in Turin since 1856 and which continued to be published until the fascist suppression of 1930. It is a composed leporello album from 30 lithographed sides that open create a sheet 3.6 meters long. On this medium, the caricatures of Casimiro Teja, historical collaborator and then director of the magazine, trace the history of the Risorgimento from 1848 to the capture of Rome in 1870, through the stories of the main protagonists of the events (Garibaldi, Cavour, D'Azeglio, Napoleone III ) and of the bersagliere Gianduja, symbol of Turin. All punctuated by verses that follow the alphabetical order in the initials. On the first page a curious Note with handwritten characters, signed Pasquale Pastamolle, Binder of Pasquino, which gives an account of the discrepancy between the title (Journey from Turin to Rome) and the fact that the series of engravings instead starts from Rome. Unfortunately, the lithographed paperback is missing, it is a copy to be restored.
