Description : Artemide a caccia

Oil painting on canvas. Signed lower right. The scene set at night in a forest with lush foliage and a flowery meadow, sees the goddess, wearing only a quiver and a crown of flowers on her head, chasing a dove aiming at it with her bow. Puricelli Guerra, a Lombard painter, created numerous genre scenes of contemporary social life, but in this case he proposes a mythological subject albeit with a clear romantic connotation. Artist: Giuseppe Puricelli Guerra (1832-1894)

Born in Gallarate in 1825, Giuseppe Puricelli Guerra studied at the Brera Academy, a pupil of Sogni and Francesco Hayez, and dedicated himself to genre painting, historical painting, landscape painting, both oil and watercolour. He exhibited in numerous Italian cities, and for some years he worked at the Russian court. Puricelli Guerra died in Casirate d'Adda in 1894. For some he worked at the Russian Court.
