Description

Second edition, printed by Officina d'Arte Grafica A. Lucini on Rusticus handmade paper from Cartiera Miliani in Fabriano in 1000 numbered copies (ours no. 853) on behalf of II Libraio di Via S. Andrea. The first edition of 561 copies, edited by Mario Oriani and Adriano Ravegnani, was published on the occasion of Dino Buzzati's solo exhibition at the Galleria dei Re Magi in Via Boito 8, Milan (1-15 December 1958) and also printed by Lucini. Buzzati, by his own admission, felt like a painter before a writer: he considered writing "a hobby" and declared himself the victim of a "cruel misunderstanding". The purpose, however, both of writing and of painting, remained for him to tell stories, and it is therefore natural that the title of the first personal exhibition of the painter Buzzati in the Galleria dei Re Magi in Milan is entitled “Painted Stories”: paintings accompanied by captions and short narrations that take us back to the atmospheres of the author's books. The volume also includes the facsimile of the manuscript of Il Lasciapassare illustrated with drawings in red nt and ft, a short essay by Raffaele Carrieri on Buzzati the painter and the reproduction of the original silkscreen prepared by Buzzati as a tribute to the visitors of his exhibition in 1958. With 8 black and white and color plates on semi-movable sheets.
