Description : Ritratto di anziana con borsellino

Oil painting on canvas. An elderly woman, in her popular dress, holds in her hands a small cloth bag, a purse, with tight cords, perhaps an allegory of avarice. It is attributed to Giuseppe Nogari, the Venetian painter who painted mainly portraits and half figures of character, composed with a wide layout and wrapped in soft chiaroscuro effects; Portraits of poorly dressed elderly women frequently recur in his production, often against a dark background. The painting shows signs of restoration and relining.
