Description : Giovane donna con cesto di verdure
Oil painting on canvas. Signed lower right. This portrait of a young woman carrying a basket full of vegetables, against the background of a popular city district, with fast and dense brushstrokes, with skilful material mixtures of bright, warm and lively tones, places Giacomo Moretti among those artists who in the 20th century are still linked to the romantic-naturalistic tradition of the 19th century. Giacomo Moretti's painting is imbued with a vibrant nostalgia, with an ancient vitality that portrays faces, uses and customs of a past time. With his persuasive and at the same time realistic trait, Moretti captures the essence of his subjects to make them alive, capable of transmitting unique emotions of their kind. The work is presented in a period frame.

Additional Information
Artist: Giacomo Moretti (1939)
There is very little biographical information on the painter: although Naples is indicated as his hometown, Moretti was probably born in Cava dei Tirreni in the province of Salerno in 1939; for some years he lived in Naples where in 1971 he received, on the occasion of the First Neapolitan Biennial of Contemporary Painting, the diploma with a gold medal. He then moved to La Rochelle, France. The artist has always shown a secluded, reserved attitude, lending his side to quite a few rumors, to those who assert that Giacomo Moretti is only a pseudonym. Moretti's artistic career is marked by two references: one refers to the masters of Neapolitan painting of nineteenth-century romantic-naturalistic matrix, such as Antonio Mancini and Vincenzo Irolli; the other reference is to the Neapolitan painting of the seventeenth century by Luca Giordano and in particular to the Caravaggesque Battistello Caracciolo, Massimo Stanzione.
