Description
Rare pamphlet published on the initiative of the director of the Rivista Marittima, Rear Admiral Francesco Roberto Mazzinghi, dedicated "to the sailors and soldiers in Tripolitania so that in the Christmas they spend at war the good word of the distant homeland may reach them with the voice of the poet of Italy". Mazzinghi had asked Giovanni Pascoli to write a poem that would be of "comfort and exhortation to the homeland". The text of the poem La notte di Natale, published here in the original edition, is reproduced in manuscript in facsimile on the central pages and in transcription on the last page. It will then be included in the second edition of the poet's "Various Poems"
