Oil on canvas. Signature, date and location Milan on the lower left. The young woman portrayed is very elegant in her blue satin dress embellished with delicate lace, she sits on an elegant armchair; smiling, she looks at the viewer with intensity, showing off her beauty. There is an uncertain identification of the woman as Clementina Marchetti Grillo, a young noblewoman from Lecco, of whom there is another portrait by the same Luchini. The work is presented in a gilded frame from the second half of the 19th century, with missing parts (to be restored).

Clash between Military and Guerrillas in Spain

Oil on canvas. Accompanied by an expertise by Professor Fernando Mazzocca. The painting belongs to a series of works by the Veronese painter Giuseppe Canella set in Spain, following the artist's stay in that country between 1820 and 1823, which led him to stop in various Spanish cities, the last being Madrid where he frequented the court. From his travels around Europe, Canella brought back numerous drawings from which he took inspiration for the works later reworked in his studio in Milan, often then presented at the Exhibitions of the Brera Academy. In this work the reference is to a dramatic period in the history of Spain, marked by the constitutional uprisings against King Ferdinand VII of Bourbon, which provoked French intervention in support of the monarchy against the rebels. In reality, the historical event is almost a pretext for Canella to recall the harshness and charm of the mountainous landscape, which acts as a monumental backdrop to the clash between the army and the rebels, small and almost indistinct figures. The painting, in excellent condition, presents only very slight losses of color, already restored. It is presented in a contemporary frame.

The woman's clothing and pose reflect the taste of the Belle Epoque, elegant, casual, carefree, representing the new bourgeoisie devoted to pleasure and luxury. The canvas has slight tears to be restored and some patches on the back. Frame in style.

Painting by Giacomo Francesco Cipper known as Todeschini

A Cherry Seller Being Courted by Two Musicians ca. 1720

Oil on canvas. The painting is accompanied by an expertise by the art historian Dr. Giuseppe Sava. The protagonist of the open-air market scene is a cherry seller, wearing a showy straw hat and sitting next to a basket of these fruits placed on a wooden bench, next to a stone on which the steelyard rests. With a smiling, almost winking look, turned towards the viewer, she is accepting the advances of the man who, behind her, is placing a hand on her shoulder, with a lascivious look, while two musicians on the left improvise a small concert. The composite and cheerful group harks back to the production of Giacomo Francesco Cipper, known as Todeschini (1664 -1736), a painter of Austrian origins but Lombard in training and pictorial style, who was a "singer of peasants, street vendors intent on their daily occupations or pastimes", a specialist in market scenes, open-air concerts, card players, scenes of humble daily life created with laughing caricatural forcing and a search for comic effect. Cipper drew this narrative style from the Danish painter known as Monsù Bernardo, who was active for a long time in Italy between Bergamo and Milan: in particular, from him came the predilection for everyday stories and humble characters, as well as the impertinent nature of such characters, who seek the attention of the observer by staring at him. In this painting too, the female protagonist fixes her mischievous gaze on the observer, smiling with complicity and irony at the courtship game in which the three men make her the protagonist, implying a "market" that is no longer just that of cherries. In his expertise, Dr. Sava underlines the stylistic and typological relations of this painting with other characters by Cipper, in support of the attribution; the stylistic evolution in the formal and technical aspects of his works is also explained - the colors that lighten, with an evident predilection for ochre, hazelnut, sage green, among which powder blue creeps in; the milky backgrounds, the softer luminosity and the less plastic chiaroscuro -, an evolution that allows us to place the work in his production of the early 18th century. The painting has been restored and relined. It is presented in an adapted antique frame.

Male Portrait Painting

Oil on canvas. The man portrayed is wrapped in a luxurious purple-red damask robe and holds an envelope in his hand, indicating a noble literary status. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in an ancient frame that has been readjusted and regilded.

Mixed Technique on canvas. Signature and title on the back. Vanni Viviani's pictorial production, initially based on pictorial and sculptural figuration, then moving on to a surrealist matrix of Magritte-like style, has as its recurring theme the Apple, understood as an allusive and erotic symbol, fruit of religions, fairy tales, science and heroes, which evokes important moments of the past, until it becomes a symbol of life, sensuality, a place of ideas. Framed work.

Oil on canvas. The large scene is set outside a rocky fortress and features a garrison of soldiers preparing for battle: in the foreground on the left, near a tree, the group of commanders on horseback observe the work and give orders, while the troops arm the cannons on the ramparts, prepare rudimentary lances and sharpen their sidearms. The colors are clear and dull, with shades of gray that pass from the clear sky with clouds to the rocky fortress, to get lost in the ground, turning to a sandy beige; only a few of the officers' uniforms stand out, breaking the chromatic uniformity. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in a golden frame from the early 1900s.

The noblewoman, an elegant and proud lady with silver hair, is portrayed in a pink evening dress, trimmed with lace and frills, and completed by a blue velvet cloak, lined with a silver arabesque fabric. The lady does not flaunt any jewelry, but only has a bunch of delicate little flowers on her hair. Restored and relined, it has a small loss of color in the background at the top. It is presented in a period frame.

Oil on cardboard. The oval scene presents a typical eighteenth-century subject, that is, a gallant encounter in a bucolic landscape. Two girls and a boy are conversing gallantly in a park full of vegetation; they are sitting under a pedestal that holds a vase from which a cascade of flowers flows; next to the girl on the left are two sheep, tied up like pets; on the right a wide river flows peacefully. The painting has several scratches and paint losses. Framed.

Female Portrait, 1841

Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower left. Eliseo Sala is celebrated by contemporary critics as a prominent portraitist in the Lombardy panorama. In fact, he carried out many important commissions on behalf of royal, noble and upper-middle-class families, as well as prestigious political figures. In his maturity, his art was oriented almost exclusively towards veristic portraiture and historical Romanticism, rendered with immediate painting, of extreme chromatic refinement, rich in chiaroscuro and an in-depth psychological investigation, which often reproduces the ideals of the Risorgimento that were typical of his personal beliefs. Presented here is the artist's portrait of a lady of the wealthy bourgeoisie, which well expresses the intense capacity for realism and psychological introspection that emanates from the woman's gaze. The painting is presented in a 19th-century gold frame.

The work is accompanied by the purchase invoice from that auction in 1951, with the title of the work. Of humble origins, the Veronese artist Angelo Dall'Oca Bianca, even once he had become an established and appreciated artist, frequenting the Italian and international artistic and cultural environment, always maintained a bond with his city, a constant source of inspiration for his artistic production, and a bond with its poor; in 1939 he built the Villaggio Dall'Oca in Verona, for the benefit of the city's poor, and in 1941 he made a will, leaving all his money and his paintings to the city of Verona for charitable works. His painting was always of a purely veristic nature, influenced above all by contact with Giacomo Favretto. The witch's cave shown here actually refers to a poor and degraded environment, where a female figure emerges from a dark room, wrapped in a cloak that gives her a mysterious air. The work is presented in a frame.
